Visa Letters and International Travel

PyCon Africa can provide you with a "Visa Letter" or an "Invitation Letter" to support an electronic visa (e-Visa) application to the Republic of Uganda.

Visa invitation letters can be requested only after you have a fully paid and confirmed conference registration (unless you are a confirmed event speaker).

To request your letter, please send an email to visas@pycon.ug with the subject line "Visa Letter Request - [Your Name]" and include the following:

  • Proof of Registration: Your confirmed ticket or opportunity grant codes.
  • Travel Identification: A clear copy of your passport bio-data page.

Please fill out the online request form to receive your Visa Letter or Invitation Letter: https://forms.gle/Wpzt91VVzoRZWCbP6

Please contact the PyCon Africa 2026 Organizing Team with any inquiries via email: visas@pycon.ug

For citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), please reach out to the PyCon Africa 2026 Organizing Team directly at visas@pycon.ug for travel guidance to the conference.

Notice for International Travelers

Please read this information carefully and check every item. Following these steps is crucial to ensuring a smooth entry process into Uganda.

  • Mandatory e-Visa: Uganda does not issue visas on arrival. All international visitors requiring a visa must apply online beforehand through the official Uganda Electronic Visa/Permit Application System (https://visas.immigration.go.ug/). Please submit your application at least 2 to 3 weeks prior to your travel dates.
  • Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your planned date of entry into Uganda and must contain at least two blank pages.
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination: A valid International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever is strictly mandatory for entry into Uganda for all travellers. You will be required to upload a digital scan of this certificate during your online e-Visa application and present the physical card to health officials upon landing.
  • Visa Types: For standard attendance, you should apply for a Conference Visa or a Tourist Visa (the standard fee is 50 USD).
  • Citizens of the countries listed below do not require a visa to enter Uganda for short-term stays, tourism, or business. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date and that you carry your physical Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. See the list of visa-exempt countries.

Refund Policy for International Attendees

International travel dynamics can change quickly. PyCon Africa warmly welcomes all community members to Uganda, and we are committed to running a safe, smooth, and accessible event for everyone joining us for PyCon Africa 2026.

Each nation maintains its own diplomatic and immigration relationship with the Republic of Uganda. Please consult your local Ugandan Embassy, High Commission, or Department of Foreign Affairs for travel advisories and specific requirements unique to your home country. Ultimately, each attendee must make their own decision based on their personal risk assessment and travel conditions.

In light of current international travel complexities, the PyCon Africa 2026 Committee provides the following dedicated support policy for international travellers:

Refund Policy Details

If your trip to PyCon Africa is cancelled due to an inability to obtain a Ugandan e-Visa, or if you are denied entry at the border despite holding a valid authorization; or if you are unable to travel due to contracting a communicable disease such as COVID-19 or Ebola, PyCon Africa will grant you a full refund of your conference ticket and waive all cancellation fees.

Additionally, if you hold an approved e-Visa authorization but are unexpectedly turned away by immigration officials upon arrival at the point of entry, PyCon Africa will assist with the following provided you furnish official border documentation of the entry denial:

  • Accommodation: If you booked your stay through the official PyCon Africa designated registration system, our coordination team will work directly with the local hotel management to ensure you do not suffer a cancellation penalty.

For all refund submissions or general registration inquiries, please reach out directly to our dedicated registration team via email at chairs@pycon.ug
