Muhammad Aliyu is a PhD researcher at KU Leuven (Belgium), where he studies connected entrepreneurial ecosystems across 272+ European regions, with a joint appointment at Utrecht University. He holds a Master's from Carnegie Mellon University Africa (IT and Entrepreneurship) and a Bachelor's from the Federal University of Technology Minna (Computer Science).
His research uses Python extensively for patent data analysis, network science, and econometric modeling.
Muhammad founded the Africa Innovators Society, reaching 300,000+ community members, and has trained 3,500+ individuals across Africa in technology and entrepreneurship. He has delivered keynotes and moderated panels at CMU-Africa on AI, portfolio building, and the university-to-venture pipeline.
Abstract
Most organizations in Africa still run on manual processes: data entry copied between spreadsheets, reports assembled by hand, approval chains managed through WhatsApp, and critical intelligence locked inside individual inboxes. GenAI has shown impressive capabilities, yet most deployments stall at the pilot stage with little measurable ROI.
