Makala Sankara Anzuruni is a software developer, researcher, and humanitarian practitioner based in Mozambique. He holds a degree in Computer Science from Licungo University and a Master’s degree in Humanitarian Action and Sustainable Development from Atamar International Theology University.

His work sits at the intersection of technology, education, and social impact. Makala has experience in software development, digital systems, and educational technologies, and has worked as a university programming monitor, IT coordinator, and systems analyst. He has also contributed to community initiatives, including training young students in programming through the Code Like a Girl program.

As a refugee community advocate and volunteer with the Association of Refugees in Mozambique, he focuses on using technology and innovation to strengthen communities, improve access to opportunities, and support sustainable development. He is also the founder of the startup M-Txuna, which aims to help smallholder farmers access credit through digital solutions.

Python for Community Impact: Simple Tech Solutions for Refugee and Rural Communities in Africa

Across Africa, many communities still lack digital tools that could improve coordination, access to information, and economic opportunities. This lightning talk introduces practical ways Python can be used to create simple, affordable, and impactful solutions for local communities. Through real experiences from Mozambique, including work with refugee communities and youth technology training, the talk highlights how developers can: Build simple data management tools for NGOs Develop platforms that support farmers and small businesses Use Python for education and community empowerment Create scalable solutions with minimal infrastructure The session aims to encourage African developers to see Python not only as a programming language but as a tool for social innovation and community resilience.
