Go Nana: Gānā in Ghana

In this talk attendees will learn about Jython, an open source library of the Python programming language, integrated with the Java platform for music making and other creative programming activities. Attendees will also learn about Hinduism, being the fastest growing religion in Ghana, and what a gaana is. The most popular vocable in the world is "nana" and a lot of reggae music, rock music, pop music, and rap music use this vocable in their songs.
Attendees will leave this talk with an understanding of Jython libraries, Hinduism, and Indian Culture: music making image manipulation building graphical user interfaces (GUIs), connecting to external MIDI and OSC devices music transcription and playback audio looping, computer-aided music composition development of computer-based musical instruments (including hybrid instruments) many types of gaana and how they easily correspond with certain values and traditions of the Ghanaian culture such as Attu gaana (songs from Bollywood Movies) Deepa gaana (Song about ancestors and forefathers) Thalattu (lullabies) Aal gaana (live demo where I will turn my computer into a musical instrument to play music made by Beethoven, Deep Purple, Tupac Shakur, Mozart, and Deep Purple) Folklore (gaanapaatu): Live concert and performance where I will convert an Indian song into a Ghanaian-sounding song and I will rap along to it for the audience.
